Yellowface is a bad look, Hollywood

Stop casting white actors to play Asians maybe?

Scarlett Johansson’s casting in ‘Ghost in the Shell’ is just one of the latest examples of a white actor playing an Asian character, a practice that goes back to the earliest days of Hollywood. These casting decisions have made Asians invisible at best and, at worst, the butt of a cruel joke.

  1. Literally every bit of representation I have seen, especially Desi and Chinese, Korean and Japanese people is the same. Either with really strong accents, which most of us don't have, or the "super smart, no friends, no life" thing. It's ridiculous. It makes me so angry.

  2. This yellowface thing is all bad. Being an Asian myself I don't know her ethnicity but Tilda Swinton looked perfect for the role of The Ancient One in Dr. Strange. People of the place who she was playing look just like that. I was convinced. Yeah, they could have hired an Asian actress but as it's not like that she did great.🙂

  3. I love that Hollywood pretends to be "diverse" and "inclusive" but when they do, it's just stereotypes, caricatures and black people. No offence to black people but blackwashing characters is not how one does diversity.

  4. Learn to swim, Hollywood. Cause Mom's gonna put it back the way it ought to beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. The funny thing is they did an interview etc and many japanese people in japan r okay with this n hv 0 trouble but people abroad be like nooooooo 😂 Then my course be using this as an example of why different people be having different reaction how people abroads r so mad n offended while the japanese people in japan be like meh its cool movie is awesome 😂

  6. It's just harmless entertainment, there's nothing wrong with it.
Sometimes it's humorous and other times it's sensual.
People who say this is cultural appropriation, which some would say is bad, should look at parts of Asia. They love to culturally appropriate white people(European/Russian/American).
